Moses, Prince, & beat disPLACEMENT

In Bob Moses' DRUM WISDOM he writes there are only eight places in a bar of music to resolve the beat. And they are, obviously, 1&2&3&4&.

S'alright, it's Friday afternoon, I'm off the day gig early and slide into a shady bar for a medicinal drinkie on the way home amd Prince's SEXY MOTHERFUCKAH is blasting. I can't help but think about Moses as I hear those sweet downbeats on 1 and 2&.

I've tried to incorporate Moses' maxim before but found it hard to keep it grooving accenting on the 1 from the prespective of the melodic members of the band. So if I wanna go off I'll usually lean toward 2& and 4&; 2 and 4&; or 2& and 4. BORING!

It gets me off and pisses me off at the same time that a cat can make it groove so hard ala 1 and 2& like SEXY MF.

Anybody got some combinations that are really hip?
